The Root Cellar

Address: 1286 McKenzie Ave.
Phone: (250) 477-9495
Website: http://www.therootcellar.ca/
Notes: Tons of vegetables... reasonable prices.

The Root Cellar is a great location for stocking up on fresh fruits and vegetables! They work super hard to keep lots of locally produced items in stock, and their prices are pretty fantastic. It can be a bit hectic on weekends but well worth the stop.

Service:
There are Tons of staff here! Tons! Every person I've talked to has always been extremely helpful.

My one pet peeve is that they don't have a washroom. Somehow, I'm always desperate to go to the loo while I'm in this store (probably because we have usually just come from brunch where I have had too much coffee and water).

Food:

This is a pretty good haul for just over $20! It included:
  • Three beets (now roasted! YUM!)
  • One zucchini
  • A bag of mushrooms
  • Six ears of peaches and cream corn
  • One bunch of kale
  • One ugli fruit (great branding, that!)
  • One red pepper
  • One green pepper
  • Twelve apples

I also like that they carry quite a few local and hard to find products. They don't have much in the way of meat, but they do have quite a lot of local cheese and random other products. You could quite a bit of your shopping here, but not quite all of it. However, between here and the bakery next door you could do it all except that I'm pretty sure their Kildara farms freezer selections didn't include bacon. *sad face*
