Raspberry Wheat - Phillips Brewery

Price: $5-6 for a big bottle
Notes: Only available seasonally

The Raspberry Wheat is one of two Phillips summer beers that I absolutely crave year-round (the other one is the Blackberry HeiferBison). I know fruit beers aren't everyone's thing, but on a beautiful summer day there's something pretty magical about this particular breed of beer.  Especially on a Friday.

Picked this up at Liquor Plus on Douglas st. The service was supreme! Started by asking where the mead was, ended up in a 10 minute conversation about local mead/wine/good white whine and ended up buying something recommended. Already had the bottle of this in my hand though... needed no service, it practically lept into my hand out of the cooler! Bonus nerd points to Liquor Plus for their custom Gowalla stamp and shout out.

The colour of this is actually redder than it looks in this photo! It's pretty lush, really. I can't imagine how many raspberries must go into this beer but it does make me happy to think about it! The raspberry taste isn't overly strong, even, but it is certainly more than a little bit obvious.

Personally I don't think this beer is too sweet, especially compared to some fruit beers I've had, but my partner-in-food-and-life disagrees. I prefer the 'dry' description that Phillips gives on the website - even though I'm not normally a fan of dry I think it helps to balance out the sweetness of the berries.
