Avalon

Address: 1075 Fort St.
Phone: (250) 385-2129 ‎
Price: ~ $10 a dish
Notes: A hidden gem for breakfast/brunch in Victoria

Whenever I'm asked for one of the lesser-known best places in town, Avalon is always at the top of my list. To be honest we often forget about it completely, and are always delighted to remember it again!

Their brunch menu is pretty standard, but unlike many other breakfast places in town the focus is on the flavours and not on the portion size. They also have a pretty tasty looking lunch menu, but somehow I've never got past one of the options on the brunch menu...

I do love the service here - they are always very welcoming of us and our dog, who usually joins us on their tiny patio area. They're also very good about being pro-active about preferences "do you want milk instead of cream" and "are those eggs okay sunny side up?" are some of the touches that rocket the service into the excellent category!

Huevos Rancheros via foodspotting.com

I had to order this, even though I'm at huge risk of this becoming the huevos rancheros blog! Even though this looks not too huge it still filled me up despite the fact it was 2:30 and I hadn't eaten since dinner the night before. I pretty much cut this into pieces and rolled it up to create little huevos sandwiches. Mmmmmmm!

The salsa is house-made, but the real addiction at Avalon is the house hot sauce - it's red and vaguely like frank's red hot, but has a honey-mustard & lemony quality to it that goes so well with anything savoury.  I also love the potatoes here, I'm pretty sure they are baked and then quickly pan fried.
